Why are you at CBS

Many of our talented staff members came from other organizations or institutions to work here. Many of them have been here for many years. I asked a few of our staff here at the College of Biblical Studies to answer the question: “Why are you at CBS?” And here were some answers: “I had a deep hungry for more of God. He put on my heart the desire to ‘Know and enjoy God more and to be near to the wise to be wise.’ After serving in Women’s Ministry and BSF for years, I felt the Lord wanted me to go further on with Him to show myself approved.” “To encourage students to “Know and enjoy God more and to be near to the wise to be wise, ‘and finish well at CBS with excellence.’” “I was about to become a...

What do you think of…

What do you think of…

The College of Biblical Studies. When I think of the College of Biblical Studies, I think of two things: 1)The inerrant Word of God being taught to people who are changed by it, and are compelled to share it however God sees fit, and 2)Diversity in ethnicity, age, gifts, desires, and ministries. The College of Biblical Studies has a short but rich 30-year history that provides the foundation of the personality of the school. When I walked in the doors of the College for my first time to attend class, I immediately felt community. Why? Because I knew that everyone was there for the same reason: to be trained in the Bible amongst other Christians. People do not attend CBS who want a general education just to get a college degree. People who attend the College of...

Congress is Broken by Design

Congress is Broken by Design

by Marvin McNeese – CBS Department Chair, General Education – on 9/10/11 Recently, reporter James Oliphant reawakened the chorus of media and academic voices claiming that Congress is broken, due to their inability to efficiently pass legislation that would solve some of the nation’s biggest problems. Unfortunately, these critic’s frustrations have masked the truth. What appears to be broken, within Congress, is actually the way the Founding Fathers designed it to function. The Framers of the U.S. Constitution intended for Congress to be the primary political institution called upon to craft political solutions to the nation’s biggest troubles. This process was meant to proceed with caution and was to incorporate the viewpoints of...

Video Testimony: Terry Cokenour

Former employee and student shares his testimony and how God called him to full time missions:

The Difference a Friend can Make: Student Testimony

What a difference a friend can make! To say I was “unhappy” when I realized God was calling me into ministry is an understatement. My reasons for why this was a bad idea were shallow and selfish. For instance, I judged that some of those Christian people on TV have really bad hair, and I didn’t want people looking at me and judging me like that! (If you saw my hair you would realize the irony in my reasoning…and yes I know we are all noticed and judged. I didn’t say they were good reasons!) So what did I do about this calling God put on my life? I went to church more seriously. It was all I could bring myself to do except cry. I told God that I wanted to be the person He created me to be. I lost a great career. I had been taken to the edge of...
