Student Ministries Word of the Week
Or should I say, “Word for the Weak!”
I often have fellow students come to me who are apparently at the end of their rope. They start excited about their new adventure with CBS and decide to pile on the courses. Some are students who have been out of school for a long period of time and just want to finish their degree. Others are young and entering college for the very first time. The first group of people pile it on to finish mostly because of their age; the latter because they are young and ambitious. I was once the latter. May I offer three points of sound advice as I do to those who appear somewhat weary.
- Trust in the Lord – I mean, rest in His strength. Many of us have heard this but may not actually have applied it at this level. Jesus said, “Come unto me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
- Trust in prayer – I found myself frantic about getting my work in on time; that is until I realized that I was trying to accomplish my studies apart from Him, in my own strength. Accessing Him in prayer asking Him for strength is central to getting through the tuff stuff.
- Trust in His provisions – We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. The thing about being a student of the word at CBS is that we have the opportunity to put to practice the things we have learned. What we’ll learn is that God’s promises are true; we may stumble, but there is no failure in God; He will provide the strength you need as you rely on Him.
Remember what Jesus said, “Apart from me you can do (absolutely) – NOTHING!” But with Me you can do all things!
